Healthy BBQ – Smart alternatives to sausages and meat

When the sun´s out, moving your dinner table into the garden is a good choice. Ideal to invite friends and family for a barbeque. Some of your guests may be vegetarian or prefer meatless dishes while others may be calorie conscious. A healthy barbeque offers something for every taste.
Enjoy while keeping your calorie count in check

Below some healthy alternatives that will let you enjoy your barbeque without having a bad conscious:

   -  Offer salads and vegetables
   -  Make sauces yourself
   -  Reduce bread and other carbohydrate-containing side dishes

Alternatives to meat

Cheeses: Whatever your preference, there´s a delicious grillable cheese for everyone!  Halloumi cheese for example stays firm and is therefore perfect to put on skewers. Mozzarella melts and is best used on vegetables such as eggplant slices or cocktail tomatoes.  Feta also melts and develops a mild taste which tastes different from “cold” feta.

Grillable vegetables: Try courgette, eggplant, tomato, mushrooms, peppers, asparagus, sweet potatoes, pumpkin, carrots, and of course corn and potatoes.

Grilled fruit: Definitely worth a try: pineapple, banana, mango, apple, nectarines, strawberries, apricots and melons.

Facts about meat and sausage

Meat itself is not "bad", however, it must be of good quality and, if possible, a lean piece. The higher the fat content of the meat, the lower the protein content, which is saturated and important to the body. Sausages are not recommended as they contain a lot of fat and are highly processed products. The pure meat content is very low and therefore no longer provides valuable nutrients.

Fat dripping on the barbeque can develop into carcinogenic substances. Also make sure to cut away black parts of your meat. It also contains carcinogenic substances. Tip: previously marinated meat can reduce this formation by 90%. You could for example use a mixture of vinegar, lemon juice, apple juice, brown cane sugar, mustard, rapeseed oil, herbs and spices.

Drinks for a healthy BBQ

Why not try some homemade iced tea? Make lemon tea and let it cool. Add mashed strawberries, orange juice and if necessary some sugar to the tea. Add ice cubes and cut strawberries into the glass as a nice garnish. If you do not have time to make your own tea, you can also use the unsweetened black tea lemon from Rauch Juice Bar as a base. In addition, the directly pressed orange juice from Rauch Juice Bar is ideal for adding.

Additionally, mix lemon juice with some fine sugar until the sugar has dissolved. Add ice cubes and blend. Mix with sparkling water and garnish with a lemon slice and mint. Of course, this is also possible with some champagne!

With shot - Rosé Sangria: A blend of rosé wine, sparkling wine, fruit tea, rosemary, elderflower syrup and fruit. Again, instead of the tea, the fruit tea of Rauch Juice Bar can be used instead.
